Cruising on through.

Spent alot of today practicing a bit of Japanese. I was trying to learn the phrases for "I want to eat/drink something." as well as its negative. And boy, its different for each phrase. I got totally confused.
While practicing, i was also uploading video to start editing. I went to the super market looking for a glove of some sort to protect my fingers when i use the meteor hammer. I get rope burn on my index finger if I dont have some sort of protection and then a blister forms. I couldn't find any gloves, driving, gardening, or warming gloves at all. What a pitty. I found a bunch of pink rubber cleaning gloves, but that wont do me any good.
Yumi came home and we chilled for a bit then grabbed some dinner at that Jack and the Maggot Pea cafe. It was alright. Then I went off to practice. I practiced hard and I tired myself out quick while practicing the meteor hammer, YinYang Gun, and Hong Quan 2 for the performance tomorrow. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, the Meteor Hammer has no set form for it so I have to string the movements however I like. I proceeded to hit myself a bunch of times with the meteor hammer. I got myself a couple times in the foot, once on the outside of my right leg just below the knee, and the worst one was a smack in the ear. The one that gave me the ear smack is from a movement that I just can't seem to control the very last part of it. So, I decided I am gonna take that move out of the form for right now until I can control it. Only sad thing is its one of the coolest looking bits.
Now, whenever someone makes a mistake and if it involves pain, the chinese laugh at it and in turn laugh at you. We do some of the same thing in the US, but I mean, not during a practice situation like that, you dont laugh, you usually offer any assitance and just make sure things are ok. Now I can understand other chinese students giggling about it and talking/whispering to each other about it, but when you see your teacher doing the same thing with some of his older students, its really disheartening and ugly. You especially don't think the teacher would laugh and make fun like that. I think at least. So i left practice a bit upset. Oh well, i guess its just Chinese culture.

Comments

I thought you were telling me that Japanese is sooooo easy... ;)

Most of the time you'd just use "onegaishimasu" for everything... learn that and you're set.

* ___ onegaishimasu.
* ___ wa doko desu ka? (especially "otearai" or "eki")
* ikura desu ka?

There, now you're ready to go to Japan.
