Had a crappy disheartening afternoon. I went to the China Post office with Amy so she could interpret for me to send off 4 DVD sets of Jay and Janice's wedding that I finally completed. It took my about 1 hour to do everything.
1st: Got to the desk and said, I would like to send some stuff to the US.
2nd: He said they couldn't send CDs or DVDs becaue of Piracy issues.
3rd: Amy yelled at him or something. He called his Manager.
4th: He came back and said that his Manager said they had no problems sending it, but that US Customs may seize it because its CD/DVD. So, if it never shows up, Jay and Janice, you know why.
5th: He weighed the stuff and it was around .46 kg or something. which was about 97 qwai ($11 US). He then put the box he would send it in, and it shot up to .56 kg, which was about 115 qwai...and I was like, NO! (115 to 97 isn't much in US dollars, but since I dnt have much US dollars, its an issue)
6th: We went around the corner and got some packaging paper to wrap them in. It worked well. We taped it up alot.
7th: Proceeded to fill out a customs declaration and take care of all that junk.
The whole experience took about an irritating hour.
Then we headed over to the Travel Agency to see how I could get to the Shaolin Temple for October Holiday, Oct 1-7th. I was there the day before...see Friday's entry. Amy and the others would be talking in Chinese trying to get me a train to Zhengzhou or Yuowang in Henan and then take a bus to the temple. There are planes, but it would be 1080qwai one-way, plus the paying for lessons which i dont have enuff of. She would mention Shaolin Shi and Gong Fu and all the girls that we were talking with would look at me and giggle. Thanks for showing reservation and being polite, retards. One of the other customers had a friend living in Hunan so she called him up and handed the fone to Amy. Amy chatted with him for about 15 minutes getting info on where to go, how to get there, and what to do. So with all that info and stuff we were looking at train scheduals. The train ride would be 24 hours and there were no sleepers. I was not gonna sit in a cramped seat for 24 hours. That train would leave Oct 1st at 8pm. This would give me from Oct 3rd- the 5th to practice and another 1.5 days on the train and buses back to Xiaolan. Bullcrap, its not worth it for that long. I was pissed off. I hate how the chinese wait to the last minute to tell you when things are going down. I am referring to the fact that my school and Bond could not tell me when the exact vacation days would be. Thats one idea down the crapper. Maybe for New Years holiday I will go. I was very impressed with how helpful everyone was though. Thats the plus side. Too bad Bond can't learn a lesson from these people.
Then I had to run an errand to 1+1 Supermarket for some more party things. I needed to get some cups. While I was there, i also picked up some handsoap and hair-goo. But the big chore was trying to find RAID boxes for cockroaches to enter and die. This was humorous and humiliating all at the same time.
1st: i wrote down the name RAID, because the package is in english and all these people do get enlish lessons in school, so I thought they may know. At this point i asked 1 person and 2 people came to my aid.
2nd: Writing RAID didnt work, so i drew a picture of a cockroch with a circle around it and an "X" thru it. At this point there were 3 chinese workers surrounding me looking at my picture. One girl said, "Oh!" Like she knew, and she took me over and showed me a floor mat. I hung my head in shame.
3rd: I then drew the little box that contains the poison, thinking this has got to work. I had about 5 workers surrounding me now gawking at my pictures. Then the dude I asked originally, took me to another place and showed me some tile flooring.....I was like, THE PICTURE IS OBVIOUS!!
4th: Now, I had about 7 workers just gawking and giggling. I was like, crap. Then one of them finally recognized what I was trying to get across in my drawing and took me to the RAID. I was soo ecstatic. You do not understand.
I then headed back to the house to clean my room, prepare for the party, and prepare for another stupid government dinner.
