- Boost leak
- Only when cold, which is pretty standard for a header → uppipe boost leak. Usually only noticeable at WOT in 1st and now 2nd gears. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=12207977&postcount=16
Next step Will try removing headers, replacing header → uppipe gasket, and properly retorquing the bolts, which seems to be the critical bit. Also check uppipe → turbo bolts for tightness while I’m in there.
update Ordered all requisite gaskets 2006–02–22
Broken fog lamp- Must have been hit by a rock or something. I’ve always liked Seth’s lights, because he had a nice clear cover that snapped over them to protect them. Searched NASIOC to find that they were Hella FF1000 lights. More searching revealed that the Hella 500 is an excellent replacement for the stock fogs, offering improved fog light performance, and at a cost of < 50% of the originals.
Next step I have ordered a set, complete with mounting brackets, wiring harness, etc, oh, and the cool clear covers!
update Are on backorder as of 2006–02–20. Should be shipped by the end of the week however.
update two of the three bolts holding the left fog lamp broke! I’ve ordered two new backing plates, and new bolts.
update new plates are in, left fog lamp is installed and working. Will do the right soon I hope.
update right side done!
Suspension bounciness- Currently I have some bounce left in the front, and some clunking from the right rear.
Next steps Ordering some parts (numbers listed below) to install the proper rubber spring seats. This should take care of the bounciness. Proper reinstallation and torquing of the rear strut mounts and rear strut mount housing will hopefully take care of the clunking.
update Ordered all requisite parts 2006–02–22
update Decided to replace struts with koni inserts. Completed 2006–07–23.
- Rear gate rattle
- http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9104225&postcount=27 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9123201&postcount=33
Next step Currently unknown
update found some stuff on nasioc to try. Readjusted catch latch, which seems to have helped.
- Dash rattles
- The autometer pod is mostly responsible for this I think. I’ve heard of “NVH tape” or something of the sort… It appeared to be a thick double-sided tape designed to dampen such things. This might be very useful. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898929
Smashed front bumper cover- Occurred when someone left a friggin’ dead deer in the road. The replacement cover is a mere $140, but shipping on it was $100!!!!
Next step Head to the dealers and the local body shops to see what I can find for quotes, letting them buy the parts, since perhaps they can save on that by ordering multiple bits together.
update First quote from LHM is $550, will take 2 days.
update Done.
- Driver’s side window switch plate
- This plate has had one of its clips broken while I was removing the door panel to access the speakers behind it.
Next step Figure out what kind of clip it is, order it, and replace it.
- Center console shifter/cup holder trim
- This piece has had one of its clips broken while I was removing it for the 12-disc install, or the shifter install, not sure which.
Next step I just need to get a replacement clip.
Raw fuel smell- Only when the car is cold, and it’s cold (below freezing outside) See this link http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138069&highlight=raw+fuel+smell and this one http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131755&page=1&pp=25. Dad tightened the screws while he was out over Christmas 2005, and this seemed to fix the problem, but I did smell some fuel on Feb 19th, 2006. Attach:subaru-fuel-smell-tsb.jpg
Next step Keep nose open for repeated offenses
update Dealer seems to agree on fix. Cost $380+tax. Will take 1 day.
update Dad and I looked at it and tightened them as best as we could, hasn’t returned since, so we’re waiting to see if it comes back.
Squealing brakes- While they are working, they also squeal consistently.
Next step Get some anti-squeal, and hit the pads with sandpaper. update got anti-squeal, also going to try to get new brake pad backing plates from the dealer. See part#’s below. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4453086&postcount=1
update bought CRC squeal stop 2006–02–21
update all requisite shims ordered 2006–02–22
update 2006–03–05, removed, cleaned, applied brake squeal stop and new shims to all pads. All seems good.
update 2006–03–16, have had some squealing from left side, probably rear, but it’s hard to tell. Will wait and see for now.
update Re applied brake squeal to left rear. Squeal is extremely rare now.
See the Part Numbers page for more info on… Well, part numbers obviously.
